Christmas cactus care

Schlumbergera

Thirsty’s starting schedule for Christmas cactus: about every 7 days. Check the soil and adjust it to your home.

Watering

Water about every 1 to 2 weeks, when the soil is nearly dry, and never let it sit in water. Water less after it finishes blooming, then more again when growth resumes in spring. [1][2]

Light

Bright, indirect or filtered light; it does not tolerate direct sun, which can pale and burn the stems. [1][2]

Humidity

Unlike most cacti, it benefits from high humidity. [1][2]

Soil and potting

A well-drained potting mix with sand or perlite, in a pot with drainage holes; heavy, wet soil causes root rot. [1][2]

Pets

Non-toxic to cats and dogs. [3]
